A year in pictures – Day 365

Happy New Year

We have had a lovely day and our friends Emma and Martin came for lunch along with their daughter Ava and The Little Misters bestie Maxi!

We had a lovely lunch and then dragged ourselves out for a walk around Fort Houmet. It was unbelievably windy but we were very excited to see a seal real close to shore.

The sea was gorgeous; huge waves and really wild but there is something about it that I love. Today the tide was high so the waves were coming up right against the fort and I could taste the sea on my lips. It smelt and tasted like home and I am grateful to be here, and especially grateful for such wonderful family and friends.

Happy New Year Everyone x

A year in pictures – Day 350

16 DecemberToday we took The Little Mister and a couple of his friends to the cinema to see Ferdinand. It was a really sweet little film in the end.

Not only is The Little Mister developing educationally at school and learning loads he is also learning to navigate the complexities of relationships.

This is Maxi, his ‘bestie’ and The Little Mister has described him as being like his brother. They love each other and are double trouble. Max’s Mum and I are great friends so we are delighted that the boys are such good friends. Heaven knows where this friendship is going to take us all in the future!

Best mates

Whilst I didn’t have a gigantic hangover I was definitely feeling more delicate than usual today.

This afternoon we took the kids to Messy Church and whilst The Little Mister was really awkward to start with he soon perked up when his best mate Maxi arrived.

The pair of them are definitely partners in crime. Goodness knows what they will be like as teenagers!

Lights turn on

We had a fab trip out to see Father Christmas turn on the lights this evening with our friend Emma and her kids.

The kids were exhausting and we ended the evening with pizza, pasta and wine in a local restaurant before all getting the bus home. Fun.

Old friends

Not only did I get to meet some new friends this weekend I also got to catch up with an old friend!

I have known Neil for about 20 years, since the days I lives in Hertfordshire!

We had about an hour together, drinking coffee and catching up on all the gossip.

New friends, old friends… all of them make me happy!

Weekend with Strangers

This has been a wonderful and very unusual weekend.

When I was pregnant with The Little Miss I joined an ante-natal group on Mumsnet. At some point we switched from there to Facebook and about 60 of us have stayed pretty good friends over the last 4 years.

I find it amazing that the internet can be so powerful. We have shared so many things together, joys and sadness as well as plenty of laughs. It has been amazing to be able to share concerns about our children and to have someone to talk to, who has often been through similar experiences.

About 16 of us met up for the weekend in Brighton. We rented a house and spent a decent proportion of the weekend wearing pyjamas, drinking prosecco or tea and playing Cards Against Humanity.

I feel like I have known these girls for ages. Oh yes… it’s because I have. The online world is a very real and very important place for me. These people matter to me and I am hugely grateful that we have met and continue to share our lives together.

A year in pictures – Day 302

Fort Houmet and friends

We took advantage of some reasonable weather and headed out for a walk across Vazon beach to Fort Houmet.

Such a nice afternoon spent with lovely friend. The kids played (mostly) nicely together and it meant that my friend Emma and I had the chance to catch up properly.

Friends, the beach and the physical health to go for a walk. Many blessings.

Friends

I have made it into the three hundreds again!

This evening we ended half term on a high by going out for dinner with our lovely friends the Worthingtons and Brownings.

We went to Crabby Jacks, our favourite family friendly restaurant as they have a fab playground. The kids were happy playing and we got a chance to all catch up over a glass of wine. Win win.

A year in pictures – Day 274

Old friends

I have had the most wonderful weekend.

Some of these women I have not seen for over 10 years and what was staggering was how little we have all changed. We all have sensible and important jobs (some paid, some unpaid!) have husbands and/or wives and some of us have children. However, despite all this we laughed hysterically at the most ridiculous things, drank plenty of alcohol and reminisced about what we got at to at university.

A fabulous weekend but I have realised I absolutely cannot party like it is 1994 anymore. I do not have the stamina for it! I am completely shattered!

Brum

Today I got on a plane and travelled to Birmingham where I met up with four wonderful women I was at university with. In fact, we all lived in the same halls of residence. Looking forward to a weekend of wine, laughter and catching up.

This is the view from our apartment balcony. Fab.
