A year in pictures – Day 324

Music

Back to choir today and one of the topics of disussion on the island is the suggestion that funding for the Guernsey Music Centre is to be reviewed.

As a teenager most of my Saturdays were spent at Music Centre. I had the fortune of having clarinet and singing lessons, as well as playing in orchestras and wind bands. The music service in Guernsey has always been amazing. So many children have had the opportunities to develop their musical abilities and that would be an absolute travesty if that stopped.

So, all that I learned as a child I still use today. Being part of a choir taught me to be part of a team, to listen to each other, to take instruction (mostly) and to laugh a lot. It taught me discipline and patience but more than that it is great for my mood, mental and physical health and my social life.

Music certainly makes the world go around!

A year in pictures – Day 282

LearningBack to choir again and new songs to learn.

I definitely have less capacity to learn and retain new information these days. When I was about 14 I used to be able to learn stuff easily, these days I have to work much harder at it, especially when it is in a foreign language!

A year in pictures – Day 269

Choir golf

Last I night I went out with choir for a nice meal out after a bunch of rehearsals and concerts. It was good to relax!

We had a fab dinner but this was preceded by a quick game of crazy gold. We were rubbish but it was fun.

Choir nutters

Tonight the choir was singing at a thing at the Town Church for World Peace Day.

It wasn’t too bad in the end and as usual we enjoyed being together, even if we all look slightly unhinged as usual.

A year in pictures – Day 203

Singing in the rainToday I was singing with Bel Canto at an event at Government House. It was the launch of the Guernsey Arts Foundation and they had dancers, singers and groups all performing on different stages throughout the afternoon.

The weather was awful and the rain was pretty much consistent all afternoon but we had fun. The Little Miss in particular really enjoyed an excellent local Beatles tribute band called The Day Trippers.

A year in pictures – Day 192

Guernsey Mystery Plays

Tonight was the first performance of the Mystery Play.

It went really well although I am feeling shattered!

This picture shows the first traditional dance that the audience are encouraged to participate in. The play is performed ‘en promenade’ so the audience are an integral part of it. I was quite pleased to be hiding in the balcony to be honest!

God

This week I an involved in the Guernsey Mystery Play. It is a take on the famous York Mystery Plays using local actors and musicians.

We have had loads if rehearsals over the last couple of days and I have to admit that I am slightly maxed out on coffee and Haribo.

This picture shows God delivering her maiden speech of the evening!

A year in pictures – Day 119

Bel Canto choir

Such a busy day today with kids music lessons in the morning, church music practice at lunchtime, choir practice in the afternoon and then a choir concert in the evening.

The concert in the evening was with the Guernsey Welsh Male Voice choir which was lovely although we had just so any words to remember. I am definitely struggling more with remembering words now I am older – it all seemed to easy when I was 14!

A year in pictures – Day 23

Choir birthdayToday was a special evening at choir. Our choir conductor Christine is 70 this week and we decided to throw her a surprise party.

She had absolutely no idea about it and for the first and only time I saw her lost for words. It was deeply satisfying!

2016 Project366 (Day 305)

October carolsWhat could be better than singing Christmas Carols in October?

Oh yeah, singing with some of my lovely friends and having a giggle. That makes it even better!
