Blowing my own trumpet

Well my lecture went really well. The students actually seems interested and I am pleased that the technology didn’t fail me. I was also really pleased with the feedback on the forms here are a few comments…

“Fantastic. Engaging, Interactive. Best lecture in months. I actually stayed awake!”

“Excellent, I was very interested for the whole 3 hour session!”

“It was brilliant!”

Well I can’t complain with comments like that!

One of my babies

Tomorrow I am going a 3 hour lecture at the university. Three whole hours to myself. Marvellous.

The topic matter is my favourite subject – “Substance Misuse and Pregnancy” and I have done a nice powerpoint presentation and I have a couple of exercises and case studies for the students to do themselves. Having never really used powerpoint before I spent a bit of time fiddling about with it, but I am quite pleased with the result, so I hope it will go well. Whilst looking for some pictures to illustrate drugs and things like that I found a picture that one of my client’s father had taken of me with his new grandson. It was taken in the Special Care Baby Unit and I have the picture on the wall next to my desk. It just proves that not all babies who are born to drug users have a rough ride – he is now 18 months old and absolutely gorgeous with two parents who totally dote on him. Here’s the picture (it’s a little bit grainy as it was scanned and copied etc. but you get the idea!!)…

Dunstable Downs

Had another fun day. Yesterday morning Mum, Dad and I went to Dunstable Downs for a walk. Dad was happy as he could watch the gliders taking off and landing. It was pretty chilly at the top of the downs and really windy as you can see from some of the photos.

er…. ok

I have had a nice weekend so far. My Mum and Dad arrived this morning having travelled overnight from Guernsey on the boat and then we went off to the church I have been going to recently. After church we toddled off to do some proper worship at the Church of Ikea as my Mum wanted to get some stuff for school. The conversations around the shop kind of ran like this…

Me. Why do you need that princess net that goes over little girl’s beds?
Mum. Because I am building a castle at school.
Me. … er ok….
Me. Mum, why do you need that red flokati rug?
Mum. Because I think it might add a touch of glamour to my castle.
Me. er… ok
Dad. Why has Mum bought that red flokati rug?
Me. It’s for her castle.
Dad. … oh ok (said with raised eyebrows and no further comment)

As you can see the whole visit was rather random but Dad and I have got used to Mum buying things that are rather strange under the guise of ‘it’s for school’.

After the shopping trip we hotfooted it back to my flat to watch Lewis Hamilton win the Grand Prix and the championship. He didn’t and he didn’t. How sad.

I don’t believe it

Now my washing machine has broken down. I think Smudgie must be channelling her appliance breakdowns in my direction. To make it even worse the man can’t come out to fix it until next Wednesday, and my parents arrive on Sunday so I have lots of washing to do before then. Nice.

Hurray

for Benylin Original. It made me sleep beautifully last night and I am feeling much better today, although I am still coughing. Hopefully I will be back at work tomorrow.

I am so easily pleased.

I now have a fully working kitchen… although it is not quite finished yet. Just the plastering and painting to do and then the wall unit and shelf can go up. It lools fab though and I am really pleased. My dishwasher is now working so I am pretty much washing everything I have so that it is actually clean!

On the downside, I am still feeling rough. I went to work yesterday but last night I didnt sleep until 3am so I have stayed off work today. The worst bit is that coughing so much is giving me a headache which is then made worse by coughing. It is a vicious circle 🙁

Progress so far

Well the men arrived yesterday morning at 8.30am, by 9.15am my kitchen was sitting outside on the grass. Then I spent the day going back and forth to B&Q collecting stuff that hadn’t been delivered and buying tiles and flooring. By the time I got home from lunch at 3.30pm my new kitchen was pretty much in, the (gorgeous) new oven is in but not yet working and I had a sink with running water.

They worked hard all day and so far I can’t fault them. Tonight the electrician is coming over to put some more plug sockets in and the plasterer is coming to give me a quote. Tomorrow the men are coming back to do the tiling and flooring and put the doors on the cabinet. Then I should be able to get things back into the kitchen.

By last night I was starting to feeling pretty poorly and I have come down with a cold that has left me feeling rotten. Thank goodness the workmen were not planning to come in today. I did manage to go out with Mark for dinner last night. Well, if you can class a pudding and wine as dinner then we had dinner!

I hope the end of the chaos is in sight. Pictures to follow when i can find my camera under the rubbish in my lounge!!
