2013 Project365 (Day 356)

Light in the DarknessToday my sister cooked a fabulous roast dinner for us all at lunchtime. Sunday’s are hard as Mum was really central to everything that was going on, whether she was involved at church, singing in the worship group etc., or whether she was cooking lunch for us all.

This evening The Mister, The Little Mister, my sister and I all went to church with Dad for Carols by Candlelight. It was lovely and The Little Mister spent the evening being charming and smiling and laughing at people. We had put him in his stripey Christmas pajamas before we went out so we could just put him in his cot when we got home.

It was a lovely evening. Christmas this year may be different, but the reason for the celebrations haven’t changed. If anything they have become more meaningful. The candles reminded me of the Light in the Darkness. It would be easy to be overwhelmed by the sadness and the darkness but it is the Light that must hold my gaze and my attention.

2013 Project365 (Day 355)

Hat hairThe Little Mister had a lovely long sleep this morning but he had serious hat hair when he woke up!

This picture makes me laugh as his expression is almost a ‘what are you doing Mum!!!?’

He is becoming more and more entertaining as time goes on and his facial expressions are hilarious.

Beautifu Blue-Eyed Boy
I have been utterly neglectful today of taking photos! I have been busy doing bits and pieces and entertaining The Little Mister.

So, tonight I will be cheating as my mother-in-law sent me this wonderful picture of The Mister. You can certainly see the resemblance to The Little Mister – their eyes and hair are so similar. Gorgeous!

Shop 'til we drop
Today I finished work for Christmas. Usually I would be really excited at this point and thoroughly looking forward to the festivities. This year I am trying but it doesn’t have the same sheen to it.

Tonight however my sister and I had to go and do some shopping for Christmas. we had a massive list and decided to go and buy all the non-perishable stuff. We thought we had done really well until we got it back to Dad’s house and we seem to have spent an awful lot of money on not very much! When shopping together we are terribly inefficient though – we go around and around in circles!

One thing I am hugely grateful for is that I have my sister to rely on. That is something that I never expected to say but it is absolutely true!

Christmas Fireplace
This year my Dad has given us the most wonderful Christmas present. It is this beautiful handcrafted oak fireplace surround made by our carpenter Brian.

We have been without a surround since we moved into the house and Dad decided this would be a lovely present. He is right. It is kind of a very ‘Dad’ present if you know what I mean and that means a lot.

Woody
Wherever The Little Mister goes he seems to get dressed up by people. When he is at my sister’s house he seems to be almost permanently wearing a velcro-on dinosaur tail and the childminder sent me this picture of him dressed up as Woody from Toy Story. He looks so sweet!

Grandma Photo Book
My sister gave The Little Mister the most wonderful birthday present on Saturday.

She gave him this book which is a collection of pictures of my Mum with her grandchildren. There are so many memories bound up in this book, all of those wonderful times together that one day they will be able to look back and enjoy. The only thing that upsets me is that if we have any more children there will be no photographs of my Mum with them. There is nothing to tie them together and that makes me sad.

Every day there are wonderful things that happen, but some of these things make me feel sad. I Hope that one day I will be able to look at photos of my lovely Mum without crying. Just now though, it feels pretty raw.

Family
Today my mother-in-law and I went to church and then we all went to a local garden centre for lunch.

We have had a really nice few days with The Mister’s parents but today they headed home. It is always emotional when they are going but we hope to see them again soon and we will try and phone and Skype regularly.

Such a busy but great few days. Now I am onto my last few days at work for this year and then a couple of weeks off for Christmas.

2013 Project365 (Day 348)

Happy Birthday!Today it was The Little Mister’s first birthday. I just cannot believe how much the time has flown!

We had a lazy morning opening presents and chilling out around the house. We then went for a walk across the beach and had lunch at a cafe before going to my Dad’s house where we had a party with Clara, the daughter of my cousin. She is just a few days younger than The Little Mister so it has been lovely to see them grow and change together.

We had a lovely afternoon. Most of the family popped in and we had some really good cake. Even my Ladybird Cake tasted good.

Of course, the one people I wanted there most was my Mum. She was so practical and would have just got on sorting out the party and making tea etc. We coped well without her but I just miss her ever so much. The hole in our family is huge, even though we are trying to pull the edges together.

So, enough sadness. Happy Birthday my wonderful little boy. Your have made me the happiest woman on earth and your smile and giggles are enough to dry all my sad tears. You have brought so much to our family and we are grateful, every single day for the fact that you are here.

Thank you xxxxx

Ladybird Cake
I cannot believe that my little teeny baby is going to be 1 tomorrow! He is such a chunk and is turning into a funny, smart and charming little creature. I find it fascinating to see him develop and change and to see how much he learns on a daily basis.

So, I decided to make a birthday cake for The Little Mister and his cousin Clara who is 1 in a few days time. I am pretty pleased with how my Ladybird Cake turned out!
