2014 Project365 (Day 31)

Dad & Eden Today The Little Mister and I went to Dad’s for lunch with my sister and the kids. On a Friday afternoon my sister is busy with the charity so Dad looks after my niece and nephew for a few hours.

My niece Eden is a wonderful little girl. She is hilarious and smart but she is also extraordinarily strong-willed and stubborn and at times this can make her a challenge to parent. My sister and brother-in-law do a great job with her, even when she is being her most tricky and I know that at times they feel like they aren’t doing it right. I guess none of us do it right all the time but we have to do the best we can.

So guys I would like to say, hang in there. Parenting is not meant to be easy, but it is an awesome job to have!

2014 Project365 (Day 30)

Passport photoIn April we are all going on holiday to Cyprus. I can’t wait! I need some sunshine and it will be lovely to spend some time with Dad and my sister and her family.

So, of course we are having to get The Little Mister’s first passport sorted out. On Friday last week we took him to a local shop to have his photo taken. The guy who did it was absolutely brilliant and set everything up before quick snapping him in one take.

This photo makes me smile. He just looks so surprised by the whole thing!

Knitted cushion
Look what I got in the post!

My mother-in-law has knitted this wonderful turquoise cushion cover to match our new sofa. It’s gorgeous and looks fabulous with the sofa and the new cushions.

Thanks Beryl. I do have a spare cushion to cover if you have run out of things to do. Hint, hint!

2014 Project365 (Day 28)

Jam MasterclassWhen Mum died my sister and I realised that there were so many things that we hadn’t learnt from her. Included in that was how to make decent jam. Logically I knew it was simple but we definitely needed a tutorial.

So, Louise and I raided the freezer at Dad’s house and liberated the loganberries that Mum had carefully stored to be made into jam. Auntie Jen came down and gave us a masterclass in jam making. It’s easy! Whether we will remember all her tips and tricks though I am not so sure, but we did have a lovely evening. Thanks Auntie Jen xxx

2014 Project365 (Day 27)

Compassion UKThe weekend just gone included Compassion Sunday.

Compassion is a wonderful organisation that is involved in child sponsorship programmes around the world. As a family we have a child in Haiti and we try to write regularly to her and we get letters back from her as well. We know that the money we give to her every month supports her education and welfare and that of her whole family.

In order to promote the Compassion my Dad arranged an event and brought over a woman called Rose who is from the Philippines but now works as a nanny in London. She was a Compassion child and she has the most wonderful story. She spoke at church yesterday morning and also at an event tonight.

When Mum died we wanted to set up a legacy project which we could support as a family and fundraise for. The project that Compassion have identified is in Burkina Faso and it is building two classrooms which will serve over 300 Compassion children. It is such an exciting project and should be completed by the end of the year. The cost of the whole project is just over £11,000 which is very little really.

Mum would have loved the project. She would have approved 100% as it is educating and changing the lives of children. We hope that Dad will be able to go out towards the end of the year for the opening and one day we will be able to take our children out there to see the project that bears Mum’s name.

2014 Project365 (Day 26)

26 January 2014
The weather over here has been absolutely awful today. Raining and blowing a gale.

This photo doesn’t really do justice to how windy it was, in fact it looks quite peaceful when in reality it was taking all my power just to stand upright!

Roll on summer. I can’t wait for a bit of sunshine and some warmth!

2014 Project365 (Day 25)

Look at me!Look at him!!!

I can’t believe that my little baby is now a toddler. He is looking so grown up these days.

Time has flown by and I am certainly loving the age he is now. He is generally funny and smart but he is also really quite naughty at the moment. He seems to be managing to work out all the things that press my buttons the most and then he presses them continually.

It’s been a funny day today. My late night means that I have been feeling really tired and a bit grumpy. I have been back to bed twice so far today and I can’t wait to go to bed properly! I must be getting old.

2014 Project365 (Day 24)

Karaoke, Chinese & Choir
I didn’t get to post this last night because I got home too late.

Last night I went out with the girls from the choir for our Christmas do. We went to a local Chinese restaurant and hired out their party room so we had a buffet of fab Chinese food and then Singstar karaoke and plentiful amounts of alcohol.

As expected it was hilarious. Loud, raucous and fun and yet in the middle of it all there were some sensible, supportive and kind conversations.

These girls are amazing, some of which I have sung with for over 20 years and they have been totally supportive since Mum died. Singing definitely relieves stress but so does spending time with good friends. Win win! Great night out girls!

2014 Project365 (Day 23)

23 January 2014Somehow I suspect that The Little Mister is going to be pretty technology savvy.

He already knows how to move the screen up and down on the iPad although he still occasionally tries to look behind it to see where the things on the screen are hiding!

Before we know it he will be just like his parents and glued to the technology. Which is why we will also have a vegetable patch and spend plenty of time outside. All things in moderation eh?!

2014 Project365 (Day 22)

Strike a pose! The Little Mister is being quite slow to get to his feet and start walking but in the last few days he has really come on in leaps and bounds.

He is suddenly starting to get to his feet and look steady. Soon we will have walking and then he will be unstoppable!!!
