2014 Project365 (Day 49)

Veg patch
The Mister took the afternoon off work and finished off digging our vegetable patch. Now we need to get some fertiliser and dig in, well when I say ‘we’ I probably mean ‘him’!

I can’t wait until we are able to harvest our our fruit and veg. We just need to do some planning now and make some decisions about what to plant. Any recommendations?

Valentine's Day Cards
I am so tired tonight. We had a disturbed night with The Little Mister (wonder if it was because it was a full moon!) and then I had a busy day at work and then choir practice tonight. She is working us hard because the Eisteddfod is just in 2 weeks.

So, a quick snap today of the Valentine’s Day cards that The Mister and I bought each other this year. Rather amusingly they were from exactly the same range! Either we have great taste or we know each other really well, or possibly the card selection was limited!

Sunday Walk
Finally, we had a day of reasonable weather. Sunny and clear, but not especially warm we took a little walk around the park. Due to the high winds and waterlogged grounds there were several big trees that were uprooted and there were lakes on the grass that weren’t there before!

It was a great opportunity for The Little Mister to test out his new trike which was a birthday present from Grandpa. He seemed to love it and it was nice to see him enjoying the park rather than being asleep in the buggy!

Mud RunThis afternoon The Mister and I looked after my niece and nephew whilst their parents went to participate in a ridiculous event called a Mud-n-fun Run which took them through ditches, skips full of water and across muddy fields.

We took the kids down to see them complete the race and for ages we were standing by the final tunnel through mud waiting for them to arrive but the rain was pelting down and the kids were getting cold. So, we stood under the grandstand and saw them cross the line.

Hilarious. I think my sister has only just warmed up but it was all for a good cause.

Valentines Flowers
I don’t have any strong feelings either way towards Valentines Day. It’s not like I need a particular day to tell my husband I love him. I tell him every day because it is important me. Whilst we on the subject though, he is a pretty fabulous husband and my best friend and I am so grateful that we met, that we married and that we are still together. Who said romance was dead!!

We did exchange small gifts and cards today. I bought him a pack of socks and a couple of bars of decent dark chocolate. He asked me what I wanted and I told him flowers. I was delighted when I opened the gift to find 10 packets of seeds, including veg and flowers. What a brilliant gift from a wonderful man.

Glorious Grandes Rocques
Isn’t this the most beautiful view? It looks so inviting and like it would be possible to sit on the beach and have a picnic. The reality is that it was blowing a hoolie and absolutely freezing but you would never know that from a photograph!

I’m having a tough day today. I am really miss being able to talk to Mum at the moment. She and I used to talk all the time and I am desperately missing having someone to chit chat with at the moment. This evening I have just sobbed and sobbed and I haven’t done that for ages. I miss my Mum so much and realising she isn’t here anymore seems to get harder and harder as time goes on.

Bird & Bloom
This gorgeous brooch was given to me by my cousin and his wife for my birthday. Sarah runs a fabulous company called Bird & Bloom and this brooch features one of her prints. It’s gorgeous.

2014 Project365 (Day 42)

Mum's ObituaryWhen I sat reading the newspaper at lunchtime today I didn’t quite expect to see Mum’s obituary staring back at me.

Guernsey is the only place I know in which a list of all the mourners in attendance at a funeral appear in the paper. It seems that some people like seeing their name in print, even if it is only in a list of funeral attendees! However, the Guernsey Press is now doing something new (shock, horror!) and whilst they will continue printing a list of mourners they will also be putting in a little obituary and a photo of the deceased.

It would seem that Mum launched this bold new look and she was the first candidate. I am not sure that is a ‘first’ I like very much.

Seeing it in print makes it feel so real. I sat at my desk and cried. I miss her so much and as time goes on I miss her more and more. I am still not sure how my life looks without Mum, I just know that it is very much sadder.

On Sunday night I was watching Call the Midwife and there was an old Jewish woman who was talking to a young nurse about loss and grief. She said “It will get easier. You just have to keep living until you feel alive.” I guess that’s how I feel at the moment.

Mabel
I was going to post this last night but instead I collapsed into bed!

This is our beautiful pussy cat Mabel. She is cuddly and fat but prefers sitting on The Mister to me!

2014 Project365 (Day 40)

Woe!!Today The Little Mister has been really grumpy. We thought he was getting better but he still doesn’t seem quite himself.

It took about an hour to get him to sleep tonight which is very unusual as usually he goes straight down. I am assuming that it is still the chicken pox but I hope he sorts himself out soon.

So, this photo sums up today. He still has such a cute face even when he is crying but I have chosen this photo mainly because it makes me laugh!
