Lockdown Day 37

This morning we headed out first thing for a blustery and slightly chilly walk. We headed to Fort Houmet which is one of my favourite bits of coast next to Vazon beach. We were so pleased to see a big seal swimming about in the sea – he was there for ages. Fabulous. The walk was less than a mile but it did us good to get out and about.

When we got home the kids did some school work and this afternoon I sat on the sofa with The Little `mister and watched the classic Honey I `shrunk the Kids.

For tea we had fake takeaway from Waitrose and a quick game of Carcasonne and then we met frined on Zoom to do an online quiz. A fun evening. I find it fascinating how much socialising we can do online. In some ways I am talking more to people who live on the other side of the country than those who live at the end of the road. I am definitely grateful for social media at this time.

Lockdown Day 36

For the first day the weather has been pretty dismal – wet and windy and generally a bit chilly. Not many photos today I am afraid as we didn’t even make it out for a walk.

This morning the kids reluctantly did a bit of schoolwork and I had to go to the GP for a botox injection in my arm – hopefully it will help with the tennis elbow that is causing me lots of problems. This afternoon the kids played in the garden and I went to bed for a bit!

We finished the day with curry for tea, a game of Carcasonne and an online local quiz with friends.

Lockdown Day 35

The kids started the morning with a bit of Cosmic Kids Yoga and then we had a relatively successful morning doing schoolwork and ended up painting some stones with some acrylic paints. For a first go I think they have turned out quite well.

I have to admit that I was feeling a little under the weather today and we met my sister at Vazon beach for a socially distanced walk with the niece and nephew. It was really nice to see them – I do miss my sister such a lot.

There are some wonderful stone piles all along the wall at Vazon. They look fabulous, such a creative piece of work and I love the fact that so many people have added to it. Well done everyone!

Lockdown Day 34

I have been working this morning so The Mister had to hold the homeschooling front. He did a great job as wrangling reluctant children is a tricky job. I have even more respect for my kids teachers than I did before!

Apparently The Little Miss insisted on having her lunch , sitting on her unmade bed, listening to music. Welcome to the teenage years early I suspect.

We went for a quick walk/cycle to the park, stopping into a friends garden to look at their new chicks, and then home for the kids to FaceTime their friends. When I got home I decorated out house with bunting and Guernsey flags. Islanders are being encouraged to decorate their houses in the lead-up to Liberation Day. It’s a terrible shame as this year was the 75th anniversary of the liberation and they were set for big celebrations. So disappointing.

We have also started doing pocket money over the last week. The kids get 5p for each chore they do. No chore – no cash. That’s the rules!

Lockdown Day 33

A beautiful day here today so ‘bunked off’ any type of online church and took the kids to the beach to swim at high tide. I have to admit that this morning I was feeling a little tearful, whilst I can recognise that I have many good things, this morning I was missing company. As The Mister dryily commented, “you are missing the conversation”. I think that’s true. He’s not much of a chatter!

My sister and her kids came down for some social distanced socialising and I felt a lot better. I then had a lovely walk home through the lanes whilst listening to The Archers podcast.

This afternoon the kids dug holes in the garden an ended up absolutely filthy, I cooked an excellent roast dinner and dropped some down to Dad. The Little Miss even sent him a little note. She then drew a fabulous picture of our family. Lovely!

Lockdown Day 32

We started the day with a short walk from Bluebell Wood to Fermain Bay and then back to the car. We walked up and down lots of steps but we only walked about a mile. It was absolutely beautiful, but really quite foggy which meant we couldn’t sven see the other islands. This island is such a wonderful plade to be in lockdown – we are so fortunate to have so many beautiful places to walk and enjoy.

This afternoon we had a BBQ in the garden and the kids made dens and played until they were so grimy they required scrubbing down in the bath. I even had time for a little baking and a Zoom catch up with some of my oldest, and most fabulous friends.

A pretty fantastic day.

Lockdown Day 31

Today has been quite a frustrating day. We went out for a walk first thing and it was pretty grey and foggy and I ended up dealing with work calls all the way round which was tricky. We stopped off at a dolmen on the way and the kids were quite happy on their bikes though. We found several of there stacked rainbow stones which look lovely.

It was a bit of a struggle getting The Little Mister to do any work and he took about an hour and a half to write this much. The Little Miss on the other hand cracked on with a picture and some words to go with it. Good work!

I also did an online order today and managed to order the biggest bag of flour ever – think it will keep up going for a while.

We ended the day with a fab online quiz for church. It was really well organised and great fun.

Lockdown Day 30

Can’t believe it is 30 days since lockdown started!

We went out for another lovely walk this morning and the kids cycled – they definitely whinge less when they are on their bikes! Today we went from Port Soif to the Stinky Pond and back. When we got home we did a little bit of school work, despite some reluctance and then the kids spent the afternoon in the garden. They were so filthy when they came in I had to throw them in the bath and physically scrub their feet to get rid of the ingrained dirt. I reckon they are having a fabulous time in lockdown!

Lockdown Day 29

Instead of starting with Joe Wicks this morning we decided to go out for a walk instead as it was the most beautiful day. We walked from Rousse around to Vale Pond so that we could visit the bird hide. The kids took their bikes as we have discovered that they whinge much less when they are on their pushangs! (for all you grockles that’s a bicycle in local speak!)

We are so fortunate to live to this beautiful island. All our walks have the most gorgeous views and wildlife. If we are only allowed out for a couple of hours a day, I reckon we are soaking up some of the best countryside in the world!

When we got home we strong-armed them into doing a bit of school work. To be honest The Little Miss wasn’t too bad but the The Litte Mister was a whinging nightmare…. The Mister eventually persuaded him to do a but of writing and he wrote a fabulous haiku and drew a picture.

Lockdown Day 28

Today we have been juggling schoolwork and both of us have been working. It’s not much fun trying to motivate children who can’t be bothered whilst also trying to juggle grumpy clients who feel like they are not getting much of a service. It’s frustrating. The photo of me sat at the desk typified a working day, just at this point the kids weren’t crying or yelling at each other but playing nicely with Lego!

After lunch we went out for a short walk in the lanes – it was a lovely day but had a chilly wind, and the lanes were nicexly sheltered. We came home via the Castel Church – it has such lovely views.

The Little Miss desperately wanted me to take a picture of her in her new dress, and then it would appear she has managed to do her make-up. Super.

We ended the day with a few games of Uno and adding up number-bonds style. One of the nice things about lock-down is that we have more family time, and the board games are getting a good airing!
