Eisteddfod

We have had a busy day of cooking and chores but this afternoon I was singing in the Eisteddfod with Bel Canto. We were in a class of 5 and we came second but I think we were pretty pleased with our performance.

Singing makes me happy.
Being with these girls makes me happy.
I would be happier if we had won, but one can’t have everything eh?!

Day 256

Choir rehearsalsThis evening I was rehearsing with Bel Canto for a concert tomorrow evening. It’s not very often I get sneaky rehearsal pics but the girls make me laugh.

York Mystery Play

York Mystery Play night 1. Will be glad to get this done and dusted but I think it has been a success.

Day 82

York Mystery Play rehearsal

Oh this is not the way I want to spent the weekend. This evening was spent rehearsing for the York Mystery Plays. It was freezing and we were sitting in uncomfortably choir stalls. Not my favourite place to be!

A year in pictures – Day 324

Music

Back to choir today and one of the topics of disussion on the island is the suggestion that funding for the Guernsey Music Centre is to be reviewed.

As a teenager most of my Saturdays were spent at Music Centre. I had the fortune of having clarinet and singing lessons, as well as playing in orchestras and wind bands. The music service in Guernsey has always been amazing. So many children have had the opportunities to develop their musical abilities and that would be an absolute travesty if that stopped.

So, all that I learned as a child I still use today. Being part of a choir taught me to be part of a team, to listen to each other, to take instruction (mostly) and to laugh a lot. It taught me discipline and patience but more than that it is great for my mood, mental and physical health and my social life.

Music certainly makes the world go around!

A year in pictures – Day 282

LearningBack to choir again and new songs to learn.

I definitely have less capacity to learn and retain new information these days. When I was about 14 I used to be able to learn stuff easily, these days I have to work much harder at it, especially when it is in a foreign language!

A year in pictures – Day 264

Choir nutters

Tonight the choir was singing at a thing at the Town Church for World Peace Day.

It wasn’t too bad in the end and as usual we enjoyed being together, even if we all look slightly unhinged as usual.

A year in pictures – Day 203

Singing in the rainToday I was singing with Bel Canto at an event at Government House. It was the launch of the Guernsey Arts Foundation and they had dancers, singers and groups all performing on different stages throughout the afternoon.

The weather was awful and the rain was pretty much consistent all afternoon but we had fun. The Little Miss in particular really enjoyed an excellent local Beatles tribute band called The Day Trippers.

A year in pictures – Day 119

Bel Canto choir

Such a busy day today with kids music lessons in the morning, church music practice at lunchtime, choir practice in the afternoon and then a choir concert in the evening.

The concert in the evening was with the Guernsey Welsh Male Voice choir which was lovely although we had just so any words to remember. I am definitely struggling more with remembering words now I am older – it all seemed to easy when I was 14!

A year in pictures – Day 23

Choir birthdayToday was a special evening at choir. Our choir conductor Christine is 70 this week and we decided to throw her a surprise party.

She had absolutely no idea about it and for the first and only time I saw her lost for words. It was deeply satisfying!
