A year in pictures – Day 52

From A Mother to Another

This evening I went up into the loft and found some clothes to parcel up for the collection which is being run by Jojo Maman Bebe kids clothing shop called From A Mother to Another.

The store is asking people to donate clean used clothes which will be sent to vulnerable Syrian refugee children in Lebanon and families in crisis in the UK and Ireland.

It’s dead easy, select an outfit of four pieces of clothing that you would be happy for your own child to wear. Place in a plastic bag with the age/gender/season on it and take it to a Jojo store. When you bring in two or more bagged outfits they will give you a £5 voucher.

To be honest it isn’t about the voucher, I really enjoyed putting together a little outfit. It made me smile to think another child may get to wear some clothes that my children looked so lovely wearing.

We have so much and being able to pass things on makes me happy.

2015 Project365 (Day 312)

The Battle of the Bulge

Remembrance Sunday; such a poignant day remembering those who have died on our battlefields and protecting our country. A day at which we remember all those grieving families and those torn apart through grief and sadness. A day in which we can try and stand alongside them and show our solidarity and support.

This afternoon I went out for a fab afternoon tea fundraiser for the amazing charity Help for Heroes. It was a brilliant afternoon with fab food and great company.

Each table was named after a battle and rather disturbingly we were named after The Battle of the Bulge. It was like they knew!

2015 Project365 (Day 194)

Epic48

My crazy brother-in-law and his running lover Warren are at it again.

In September they are about to undertake another challenge of running on treadmills for 48 hours to raise money for charity.

I think they are completely insane but I am also really quite proud of them. Herein starts the media whore-dom. Bring it on.

2014 Project365 (Day 234)

7 Marathons in 7 Days

The boys have now completed 5 out of their 7 planned marathons for charity..

They are doing an awesome job but are completely shattered and their bodies are starting to fall apart. I think that they have found it harder than they ever could have expected and it is sheer bloody-mindedness that is now keeping them going.

They now have to get through tomorrow and then it is onto their final marathon on Sunday which is also the Guernsey Waterfront Marathon. If they get that far then they should be carried along by the strength of the crowd of runners.

Until then, if you see them out running, toot your horn, give them a shout and a cheer and definitely donate to two incredibly worthy causes. They definitely need lots of support and encouragement to help them get to the end of this challenge.

Philip and Warren are putting themselves through absolute hell to raise money for people less fortunate, both in Guernsey and in Africa. They are doing a great job, so put your hand in your pocket and flash the case!

Marathon Men

Today is my due date but The Little Miss is actually 3 weeks old. I can’t believe that I should still be pregnant. Life would be strange without her already!

Today my brother-in-law and his running partner Warren started their 7 marathons and 7 days challenge. They completed their first one in 4 hours 34 minutes. For more info about their challenge go to www.thisisepic.org.uk and donate some cash!

Well done boys. We are proud of you. Just 6 more to go.

2014 Project365 (Day 167)

This is Epic

I didn’t get a chance to put this up yesterday because I wanted to put a picture of my Dad.

My brother-in-law is intending on running Seven Marathons in Seven Days to raise funds for their new charity called This is Epic and The Hub.

My sister joined him and his fellow runner Warren to take part in the Father’s Day Half Marathon. Philip and Warren had already run a half marathon before it started so they did great! Unfortunately The Mister wasn’t able to join them due to being poorly. It was such a change after all his training.

Here they are with an epic sprint finish. Well done guys!

2014 Project365 (Day 59)

Caritas Guernsey
Today The Little Mister and I met my friend Emma and her children for lunch at The Caritas Cafe.

Caritas is a charity and their mission statement is

“Caritas aims to establish a residential community which welcomes, supports and nourishes young people in difficulty, in the youth justice system, in distress or need, working with the land to grow self-esteem and change lifestyles.”.

Their website goes on to say that “Many young adults in Guernsey are experiencing a barren landscape: unemployment, poor education, family breakdown, drugs and alcohol abuse, homelessness, mental health problems, low self-esteem, eating disorders and self harm. It is indeed a bleak scene. But as with all barren landscapes there is the possibility for cultivation and growth. “

Caritas have had a market garden for a few years and they sell the produce at the farmers market but the community cafe is a new venture. It provides excellent food at low cost and it is such a lovely place to go. It is in Mill Street in the Old Quarter in Guernsey and we had a brilliant lunch there.

I am thrilled to see a project which supports and encourages some of our most vulnerable individuals and encourages them to grow and flourish. Brilliant!

2012 Project365 (Day 309)

Hope For a ChildI know this is a serious amount of cheating but this picture is just too adorable not to post!

This is my Dad and a little boy he met when he and my sister were out in Uganda with her charity Hope For a Child.

The picture was taken by my sister so I can’t take the credit for it but I think it is lovely and it gives me the chance to link to her brilliant charity again!

2012 Project365 (Day 276)

5 October 2012Tonight The Mister and I went to a charity quiz with my parents, my aunt and uncle and Stef. It was a really well run quiz supporting my sister’s charity, Hope For a Child.

This is my Auntie Josie, my cousin Stef and my Mum. This is the sort of photo you get when you say you are going to take a photo and suggest ‘chins up’!!!

We didn’t do too badly in the quiz and we came fourth. Basically we didn’t show ourselves up too much!

2012 Project365 (Day 159)

Charity QuizTonight The Mister and I went to a quiz in aid of Hope For a Child My sister is one of the directors of this charity and Hope for a Child do a brilliant job. Their aim is to support people in Uganda into sustainable living and empower them to be able to look after themselves. There is more info on their website if you want to have a further read.

The quiz was good…. made even better by the fact that we had the jammiest ever last round and guessed a couple of the last few questions and we won. On the picture we are third from the bottom, the team rather appropriately called ‘The Basket Cases’. We didn’t get a massive prize, but winning was what counted!
