2016 Project366 (Day 300)

Chicken nuggets

I am bored of our evening means. We eat the same thing all the times; chilli, spag bol, curry, shepherd’s pie. Boring, boring, boring.

Today I made home-made chicken nuggets. They were yummy and so easy to do!

Crispy Pork

Throughout the summer Guernsey shuts the town seafront and has a variety of events on Sundays. They are called Seafront Sunday and have all sorts of themes from motorsport to Arts and today Was food Seafront Sunday.

The town was heaving as usual, mainly due to the cruise ship that was moored up in The Little Russell and there were food demos and stalls selling all sorts.

One of our favourite stalls is Atan Ahan and they sell delicious Thai food. The Mister had a really hot beef curry and as usual I had the delicious Crispy Pork. It is gorgeous, fresh and tasty fast food. You don’t find that very often!

DeliveryI arrived home today to find that Dad had delivered me a box of fruit and veg, and a box of cakes.

I love it when things get more chilled than they should have done!

2015 Project365 (Day 142)

Guernsey Bean Jar

OK, I know this doesn’t look like the most beautiful plate of food you will have ever seen but it is absolutely delicious!

This is Guernsey Bean Jar and it is a bean and pork stew. Thick and meaty it was traditionally put in the bread oven overnight and eaten for breakfast.

Several places on the island serve it, but Cobo Tea Rooms makes one of the best ones!

2014 Project365 (Day 232)

Cake domination!Today was the start of our local show, the “North Show” and I decided to enter three cakes; a fruit cake, a Buttermilk cake and a Sweet cake.

My Mum always entered along with her two sisters and the competition was hot! Usually we are at Greenbelt so not able to enter but this year I though I would enter in her honour.

I have never made Sweet Cake before so asked Auntie Josie for the secret family recipe which she duly provided. Last year Mum won the class (I think) but this year I won, beating my two aunts into second and third. To say I was delighted was an understatement.

Mind you, they both beat me in the Buttermilk class!

2014 Project365 (Day 137)

Family fun

It has been a lovely day here today, warm and sunny and we planned a family barbecue for the aunts and uncles. It was a nice chance to get together and we used the excuse of Mum’s birthday to convene such a gathering!

As ever we had an epic amount of food, including a rather fabulous selection of desserts.

The children had a lovely day playing in the paddling pool and collecting worms from the garden!!!

2014 Project365 (Day 28)

Jam MasterclassWhen Mum died my sister and I realised that there were so many things that we hadn’t learnt from her. Included in that was how to make decent jam. Logically I knew it was simple but we definitely needed a tutorial.

So, Louise and I raided the freezer at Dad’s house and liberated the loganberries that Mum had carefully stored to be made into jam. Auntie Jen came down and gave us a masterclass in jam making. It’s easy! Whether we will remember all her tips and tricks though I am not so sure, but we did have a lovely evening. Thanks Auntie Jen xxx

2014 Project365 (Day 12)

Birthday cake!
Today we went for lunch at Auntie Josie’s house and it was delicious!! A fabulous roast pork dinner with all the trimmings followed by lemon meringue pie. Yum. It was just nice to go out somewhere for a lovely Sunday lunch because we so miss being able to go to Mum’s on a Sunday.

Later in the afternoon we also had to eat a piece of this cake as tomorrow is my cousin Nic’s birthday. Auntie Josie did us proud! Thankyou x

Pudding!
This evening we had a family gathering for my Mum’s side of the family. It definitely felt like we needed to do this and was a little bit like regrouping I guess!

As always with this side of the family the food was excellent, in particular the dessert table was it’s usual triumph!

Ladybird Cake
I cannot believe that my little teeny baby is going to be 1 tomorrow! He is such a chunk and is turning into a funny, smart and charming little creature. I find it fascinating to see him develop and change and to see how much he learns on a daily basis.

So, I decided to make a birthday cake for The Little Mister and his cousin Clara who is 1 in a few days time. I am pretty pleased with how my Ladybird Cake turned out!
