19.1

I was at work this morning and finished at lunchtime as finally we had made it to holiday time.

We were due out on the Condor Clipper but already knew that it was delayed so managed to have a quick chippy tea before heading to the harbour.

As it happened there was both the Clipper and the Liberation who were leaving at the same time and unusually they were both going to Portsmouth. It was carnage… loads of cars… and lots of confusion but that staff did a fab job.

Once on board we located our cabin and watched as we left the harbour. We also could hear our car alarm going off so they took me back then car deck to turn it off!

We headed to bed but there was a lot of messing about from the kids. I had just managed to drop off when we arrived in Jersey and the tannoy announcements started in the cabin. So that woke me up well and truly.

Finally I got to sleep.

A year in pictures – Day 246

Nearly there

Today we head home on the boat.

We have had a wonderful holiday. Seen loads of lovely people, stayed in some beautiful places and generally relaxed and enjoyed our time.

Best of all was spending time with this wonderful bunch. We are so fortunate.

A year in pictures – Day 242

A pool to ourself

Our next stop in our holiday destination is a lovely little cottage in the grounds of a stately home between Dorchester and Yeovil. Greeted by the lady of the house and her three rather lovely dogs the kids are delighted that there is a walled swimming pool

2016 Project366 (Day 291)

17 October 2016We had a very stressful start today after missing the turn off the motorway (we were only a few minutes away from the harbour) in what was torrential rain and ending up in loads of traffic. I don’t think I have ever felt so stressed getting to the boat!

The Little Miss still wasn’t at all well today and spent quite a bit of it sleeping. Poor thing. The Little Mister even chucked up due to the boat motion so it was a tricky day.

Glad to be home safe and sound now. Unfortunately we have to juggle work due to The Little Miss being poorly and unable to return to the childminder for a couple of days.

2016 Project366 (Day 290)

Peppa Pig WorldDue to the ferry company messing up our boat booking we had an extra day on holiday.

We spent it at Paulton’s Leisure Park which has the rather brilliant Peppa Pig World and their new area The Lost Kingdom which has loads of dinosaur attractions and was fab.

Such a great day out and it wasn’t too busy. The kids had a lovely day.

However, the day ended on a less positive note when The Little Miss started throwing up in the middle of the night. Not a pleasant way to end the holiday!

Premier Inn

An overnight stop on the way down South at a mediocre Premier Inn with one of the worst attached restaurants I have ever had the displeasure of going to. Complaints have been made.

We like Premier Inns as we know what to expect and often push all the beds together so the kids can’t roll out of them!

Uncle David

Our fantastic week in York came to an end and we had a lovely meal out to finish.

It has been fab to see The Mister’s brother. He usually lives in the USA so to have his company was a treat.

He and The Little Miss bonded over drawing and colouring!

2016 Project366 (Day 287)

Internet strangers

This photo was actually taken yesterday but it seemed too important to miss it out!

When I was pregnant with The Little Miss I joined an antenatal group on Mumsnet and over time that transferred to Facebook. There are still about 60 women in this group and we have shared so many things together; miscarriages, stillbirths, deaths, marriages, physical health problems such as cancer, relationship problems as well as the joys of seeing our babies be born and grow up together. We have been able to watch their lives change and able to share the parenting experience together.

I have long been an advocate of on-line friendships. I am very, very good friends with some people who I first encountered online, indeed we had several couples at our wedding who had both met each other online, and who The Mister and I first met through an online forum. The difference for me is that when there is the opportunity to meet with these individuals, that is when the relationships and friendships are cemented and become truly, truly real.

This was the first time I had met anyone from this ante-natal group and I had the pleasure and privilege of spending a wonderful evening with these three fantastic women. It was like we had met hundreds of times before. We picked up conversations that had only ever existed online and we transferred them through to real life.

Internet forums can be so important in helping to create community. This evening out was evidence of that and my life would be infinitely poorer without all these wonderful women in my lives (and I hope I get to meet many more of them!!!)

2016 Project366 (Day 286)

National Railway MuseumToday we went to the National Railway Museum, something that The Mister has been really loking forward to.

It really is an amazing, free museum and there is loads to seem but unless you like trains then it is a little but dull!! There was a very interesting exhibition about the WW1 Hospital Trains though.

It did make me laugh that the most exciting thing The Little Mister found was a static ride-on kids Thomas the Tank Engine like you see outside a supermarket. He thought that was brilliant!

We had to persuade him to have his photo taken with Travelling Ted. We picked the famous Mallard for him to stand in front but he is clearly very reluctant!
