2016 Project366 (Day 40)

The Little Miss' room

The Mister had a busy weekend of putting together furniture and securing it to the wall so it doesn’t tip over.

I think these wardrobes look pretty good although they are much bigger than we expected. Unfortunately they cover up some of the gorgeous wallpaper in The Little Miss’ room but we desperately need the storage!

2014 Project365 (Day 13)

New sofa!
We have a new sofa!!! It is deliciously comfortable and fits our room so much better than the previous bits of furniture we had in there. I have even tested it out by having a little nap. Very comfortable indeed!

Now all I need to make the lounge complete is a nice wooden toybox and a hearth rug.

2013 Project365 (Day 352)

Christmas Fireplace
This year my Dad has given us the most wonderful Christmas present. It is this beautiful handcrafted oak fireplace surround made by our carpenter Brian.

We have been without a surround since we moved into the house and Dad decided this would be a lovely present. He is right. It is kind of a very ‘Dad’ present if you know what I mean and that means a lot.

2013 Project365 (Day 337)

Wood-burnerWe have had a wood-burner for nearly a year and we have yet to perfect the art of lighting it and keeping it alight.

Tonight I watched a YouTube tutorial and my fire is roaring away. So far, so good! I love sitting in front of a fire. It makes everything feel so cosy.

All I need now is our new corner sofa and the fireplace surround that my Dad is giving us for Christmas and our lounge will feel properly finished.

2013 Project365 (Day 247)

Our houseThis evening after I had put The Little Mister to bed I sat and looked at this view whilst I had a gin and tonic. It might not be the grandest house in the world, but the reality is that it is ours and we love it.

A year ago today we finally purchased our house, or what passed for a shell of a house then! In the following months much love, care and money was thrown at it to make it liveable for us, and our as yet unborn baby.

Being here makes me happy. Our garden makes me happy. Seeing the setting sun makes me happy and just living here makes me happy. Guernsey is a terribly expensive place to live, but this is a little bit of heaven for us these days.

2013 Project365 (Day 221)

RestorationEvery time I walk to my parents’ house I see this wreck of a house. Apparently it was damaged in a fire many years ago and has been falling to rack and ruin since then.

It would seem that it has been purchased (I gather it was sold for several hundreds of thousands of pounds!) and some remedial work is taking place. I am led to believe that it is Grade 1 listed due to having a very early lintel, or something like that.

I can’t wait to see what they do with it.

2013 Project365 (Day 220)

Trug bathWe have a slight crisis.Yesterday I heard a weird swishy sound in the bathroom and the nice plumber has diagnosed a leak under the bath.

Unfortunately it looks as though they are going to have to remove the bath and take the floor boards up to find it. So, right now we have no hot water and no idea when it is going to be fixed. Typical, we are going on holiday on Wednesday. Like I haven’t got enough to do!

So, The Little Mister decided to practice for our camping trip and he had a bath in the trug. He seemed to enjoy it although this was taken just before he slipped right down and nearly ducked under the water! Bless him.

2013 Project365 (Day 131)

Door namesWe were given these fabulous door signs for The Little Mister’s bedroom door and have finally got around to putting them up.

I think they look fabulous and make his room special. The Mister has also put up an animal border and animal stickers and the look lovely.

2013 Project365 (Day 59)

The LoftThis afternoon my Mum did us a massive favour and took The Little Mister out for a mammoth walk whilst The Mister and I got on with the job I have been trying to ignore.

We have a big loft and we needed to line it with plastic so that the dust stops coming in. Such a dull job but also complicated by how steep the roof is. Now we have the knack hopefully it won’t take too long though.

2013 Project365 (Day 47)

Moving in dayHurray! We have moved in!

We were up early and had emptied our room at Mum and Dad’s and packed the van by about 10.15am. I thought that was pretty good going. So, we now have a house full of stuff and have to find places to put it all. Not easy in a bungalow with next to no storage! Our loft currently looks like a charity shop!

We are massively grateful to my parents who have let us live with them for 18 months and who have supported us in lots of different ways over that time. Living with them really hasn’t bee a trial, in fact it has been a pleasure (not sure whether they would agree with that or not!) and I will miss being there. It has been especially nice since we had The Little Mister and I know Mum is going to miss seeing him first thing in the morning.

Having said all that, I have to admit that it is pretty nice (if slightly odd) to be in our own house. This evening we had a splendid meal of fish and chips and red wine and in a little while we will finish it off with strawberries and ice-cream.

We are so blessed. Life is good.
