20.1So, the kids reminded me that tomorrow is a PTA cake sale at school.

Here is my top tip for how to do this as painlessly as possible. Stash in the freezer some reduced plain Waitrose cupcakes and decorate them with lurid butter icing and sprinkle and chocolate buttons.

Job done!…. I even left them in the plastic tray whilst I iced them and enclosed them in a clingfilm wrapped, butchered cereal packet/tray so there was nothing to bring home.

Perfect!

8.1Back to school for these two today – year 4 and year 5. They are growing up so fast and they are certainly ready to head back into school today.

The sadness of the day was the announcement that Queen Elizabeth II died this afternoon. She was the longest monarch and an absolutely amazing woman. She will be much missed.

28.1

The Little Miss has been begging me to go and help on a school trip and this morning I took some TOIL and went to help on her class trip to The Accidental Zoo. It was brilliant – the kids did a farm tour, a craft activity and had a reptile talk.

The zoo is lovely but my favourite bit was the little piglets. They are so cute and playful.

It was nice to see Eliza with her friends and she is so fortunate that she has had so many opportunities at school. It is crazy to think that this is the first year they have actually been at school a whole year since Reception!

Fern poetryToday we were invited into school to see the work that The Little Mister has been doing recently.

I loved this poem he wrote about a fern. Clever boy.

Medieval princessToday was Medieval Day at school. The kids had been talking about castles and building them all week and then today they had a banquet at lunchtime and we were invited to see them dancing in the afternoon and doing some jousting.

I adore the school – the kids get to do so many interesting and creative things and they are learning so much, so fast. Wonderful stuff.

Day 253

My baby goes to school! So, today my baby girl started school. Despite the fact that she is one of the youngest in the year having turned 4 about a month ago she is super ready to go to school!

She managed to get herself dressed all by herself this morning and then insisted on carrying all her bags herself. Little Miss Independent.

She had a wonderful, exciting day and I am grateful for a school community that is so nurturing and caring. Life is good and I cannot wait to see how much she changes over the next year.

I’m proud of you little girl. Be brave and strong but most of all, be kind.

Day 200

End of receptionWe’ve made it! The end of the first year at school!

There were a few tears (from Mummy) when we thanked his teacher Mrs Armstrong. She has been wonderful, committed and dedicated to The Little Mister and I am very grateful for all she has done for him. He has changed loads in a year and come on in leaps and bounds. You never forget your first teacher!

Day 40

Sir Edward the BraveToday at school The Little Mister had a Banquet Day. I am still relatively unclear what this means although it appears they have been doing about castles.

They were asked to dress up either as a knight, a prince or a princess and I even saw a few dragons. I raided my sisters dressing up box (a very reliable source of dressing up gear!) and The Little Mister or Sir Edward the Brave as he was known today, went off to school.

At the end of the day we were invited to go and see them dancing – he was less keen about this part of the day but it was hilarious.

An amazing day for The Little Mister was topped off by his first ever school disco. Amazing!

Day 37

HopscotchThe school car park is the coldest place on earth (or so it feels!). It seems that the wind whips up off the sea and wends it way up over the fields before screaming around the old school buildings. It is baltic! Not that it bothers The Little Miss though!
