Greenbelt!!!!

Such excitement today when we arrived at Greenbelt. I love being here – I like to think of it as my spiritual home! Its a wonderful safe, exciting place to be and I miss it every year we cannot attend.

Tonight after the kids were in bed and friends were back at the tent I snuck out to the mainstage to watched Lucy Spraggan. My hopes were not too high but she was absolutely fantastic. She seemed to be loving playing live and she and her band were brilliant.

Lovely tent

Today we packed up the tents – the groundsheets were starting to smell horribly like silage so they took quite a lot of scrubbing! We have had this tent a few years now – it is a Cabanon Pyramide 6 and we love it. Easy and quick to put up and feels warm in the cold and stable in the wind. It’s perfect for us.

We moved onto Kettering for one night stay in a Premier Inn.

Dovedale Stepping Stones

Another walk – this time we went to the famous Stepping Stones at Dovedale. After our walk and lunch The Mister and tom decided it would be a good idea to run the 9 miles back to the campsite.

20 August

Today we went to the fabulous Chatsworth House. We didn’t go into the actual house – we have too many children and dogs for that to be a good idea. However, we walked through the beautiful grounds, including the famous maze. We also went to the farmyard and adventure playground. It was a brilliant day out.

Bakewell Market

Today we headed into Bakewell as it was market day. The town has a fab local market, where it seems perfectly possible to purchase almost anything and everything you want.

We also went to the local livestock market which was absolutely fascinating. It was a thriving vibrant market and it was really interesting to see the animals being auctioned and sold.

We're Going on a Bear HuntThe weather has improved and we walked to a local pub for some lunch. Half a bottle of wine made the off-track return home a little more difficult but we got there. Tom had an OS map and he was our navigator across the local footpaths. At times it felt like we were Going om a Bear Hunt.

A little damp

The campsite is absolutely crazily wet and the ground is sodden. Already the ground between our tents is under about 2 inches of mud but fortunately the lovely wardens have furnished us with a bale of straw to help soak it all up.

It has rained steadily all day which has not helped things and we went out to Buxton to visit some caves called Poole’s Cavern. It was fab and well worth a visit. We then had lunch in the Railway Inn.

Upper Hurst Campsite

After arriving in Portsmouth at about 6am we headed up the country to the Peak district. We stopped in Derby at Go Outdoors and bought some walking boots for the kids and whilst we were there the site manager of the campsite phoned to say that the site was waterlogged and she was shifting everyone around.

When we arrived at the fabulous Upper Hurst Campsite it was indeed extremely wet and our friends had arrived and were already setting up. So lovely to see them.

The campsite is beautiful Glorious views and very helpful owners.

11 May

We recently purchased a canopy extension for our Cabanon Pyramide 6 tent. However, the canopy was not designed for this tent so it needs a couple of alterations. I am hoping a local sailmaker will be able to assist us and remove about 30″ out of the top panel – then it should fit perfectly and provide us with a but of extra storage space.
