2016 Project366 (Day 31)

Mum's CookbookI have been performing a little emergency surgery on this old cookery book.

It is well worn and falling apart with a selection of old recipes tucked safely between the pages.

It is my go to book on how to make classic sauces and meals but also contains some specials such as a section called ‘Recipes from round the World which has recipes for Baked Eel, Bird’s Nest Salad and Beetroot Soup.

This book belonged to my Mum and it is annotated throughout with her thoughts. It makes me feel close to her, and I love the thought that she is able to continue influencing my cooking. I miss her so much.

2016 Project366 (Day 30)

Haircut hell

Today I had to take The Little Mister to have his haircut.

It is a nightmarish experience and he has a massive meltdown. He refuses toe wear a gown, so I have to sit in the chair and let him sit on me. He winces every time some hair falls on his neck.

He is like a very demanding rock star. He needs lollipops and a DVD player on which to watch Thomas the Tank Engine and most of all he requires a magazine as a reward. We have also found an amazing hairdresser who is just fantastic with him!

Surely there is a job for me in a hostage negotiation team.

Birthday boy

Today my gorgeous husband celebrated his 35th birthday. We went out for an amazing meal tonight with our friends Gillian and Andy. Great company, booze and fabulous food!

He also had the tiniest birthday cake in the world and the kids helped him blow out the candles.

Love you Mister. You are such an amazing husband

2016 Project366 (Day 28)

18 monthsI can’t believe that this little madam is 18 months old today.

Such a delight but such an opinionated little girl too.

Parenting her is a huge, if challenging, privilege.

Red robin

This cute little robin toy came from Grandma Mary’s house. When you squeeze it then it cheeps. The children absolutely love it!

My booby

This is one of my favourite views.

I never thought that at 18 months on our breastfeeding journey would still be continuing. I stopped feeding The Little Mister at 14 months because I was pregnant and it was just so painful, but with The Little Miss we have continued well past that.

It makes me smile when she looks at me and says ‘My booby’ and it certainly makes me smile to feel the weight of her warm body resting against mine, snuggling down for some milk and feeling her relax.

I will miss this part of my parenting experience when it comes to an end. Hopefully it won’t be for a few more months.

2016 Project366 (Day 25)

Moonlit night

On the way to choir the moon was beautiful, big and low. Truly eerie.

When we got to choir the view across the roofs made me think that Harry Potter and his friends might fly past on their broomsticks!

Escapee

We have started letting the kittens out in the garden and they have been exploring. It would seem that Eric however is quite happy to sit on his furry butt on the chair in Edward’s bedroom. Betty on the other hand is a proper explorer, which worries me because she is more likely to get run over!

The Mister went out for a run and came back to find Betty trying to escape her quarters. Naughty puss cat.

(Look how dirty the window is too. I am ashamed!)

My babes

These two gorgeous little creatures had me up at 5.15am so I feel like the waking dead today!

I love seeing how they are developing such a beautiful relationship. The Little Mister regularly tells random strangers about his sister, “My Babs”. Very cute. Then she belts him in the face or something.

2016 Project366 (Day 22)

Winter beachWe’ve had a lovely afternoon spent on the beach with friends. To be honest it was pretty chilly and the wind was cold but the boys seemed really happy digging in the sand.

I am so grateful for this lovely island on which we live and the fact that even though it is the middle of winter we are still able to get out an enjoy it!
