Today the choir sang at the swankiest wedding ever. It was in a ginormous house with fabulously beautiful garden. Basically we love doing events where we have to perv at posh frocks and people.

As a child I was enormously privileged to be involved with the Guernsey Music Centre. I learnt to play the clarinet and I used to attend orchestras, wind bands and several choirs as well as having instrument and vocal coaching.
For many years most of my Saturday was taken with Music Centre but then again most of my friends were there so it was no great hardship.
The Guernsey Music Service is 40 years old this year and I was thrilled to be able to sing with my choir Bel Canto in one of the concerts and we joined with the Guernsey Girls Choir to sing several songs. Bel Canto originated in the Guernsey Girls and it makes me so happy to be singing with women I have sung with since I was 15. It’s wonderful.

We have had a busy day of cooking and chores but this afternoon I was singing in the Eisteddfod with Bel Canto. We were in a class of 5 and we came second but I think we were pretty pleased with our performance.
Singing makes me happy.
Being with these girls makes me happy.
I would be happier if we had won, but one can’t have everything eh?!

A year in pictures – Day 324
Back to choir today and one of the topics of disussion on the island is the suggestion that funding for the Guernsey Music Centre is to be reviewed.
As a teenager most of my Saturdays were spent at Music Centre. I had the fortune of having clarinet and singing lessons, as well as playing in orchestras and wind bands. The music service in Guernsey has always been amazing. So many children have had the opportunities to develop their musical abilities and that would be an absolute travesty if that stopped.
So, all that I learned as a child I still use today. Being part of a choir taught me to be part of a team, to listen to each other, to take instruction (mostly) and to laugh a lot. It taught me discipline and patience but more than that it is great for my mood, mental and physical health and my social life.
Music certainly makes the world go around!
