Saturday 31 July 2021

This morning started with me going off to an early morning ladies weights class and The Little Miss went off with The Mister to go and do her first ever Park Run. She did brilliantly and finished in 44 minutes and managed to run quite a lot of it. I am super proud of her 🙂

We headed off to The Vintage Agricultural Show. It was really interesting with all sorts of old farming equipment and vehicles – some specific to the local traditions in Guernsey, as well as a load of military vehicles and classic cars. There was sheep racing, petting animals, farm animals, traditional children’s games and food stalls. We spent a very happy few hours there and saw a number of people we know including my Dad and his friend Ruth. Well worth a visit and also on tomorrow.

I spent some of the day trying to cancel various bits and pieces for our holiday in the UK which is scheduled for the end of the month. We are really gutted but it feels just too tricky to go this year so we have booked a local campsite instead.

30.3This morning I went to a Bodypmup class which I really enjoyed and then I took the kids to Surf School for their final session. They have had a brilliant week and the surf today was excellent but it was windy and chilly on the beach!

This afternoon Auntie Josie popped in for a cuppa which was lovely, They big news this week though is that we have had house guests – the in-laws have been staying and it has been fab as we haven’t seen then for about 20 months!

We headed over the the park to have tea at the cafe there before the inlaws walked the kids hone and put them to bed and The Mister and I stayed on to go to a local theatre production in the grounds of Great British Bake Off: The Musical. It was hilarious and i laughed a lot – especially when the local head of police was commandeered to act as a celebrity judge. He really played up to it. Fab evening – well done MTG.

29.1This morning the kids and I went shopping for school shoes.

The Little Miss was extremely sad because she desperately wanted to have lace-up shoes. I told her that if she could tie them up properly so that the shoes fitted her feet then she could have them. Whilst she could tie the laces she couldn’t tie them tight enough for them to fit well – she was absolutely devastated and has ended up with a pair of shoes that she doesn’t like. She wept the whole time I was paying and as still crying when we met up with Daddy!

More surfing for the kids today. They have had a fabulous week and the waves were pretty good today.

Wedensday 28 July 2021

28 2This absolute superstar is 7 today. She woke us up at the crack of dawn and opened her very large presents.

We gave her a fab desk, stool and pin board to go in her bedroom and she is absolutely thrilled with them. She was so lucky and received a huge amount of fab presents from other people – loads of art and drawing stuff.

She and her brother went to Surf School again today. It was really windy today which made it rather unpleasant watching but much better surfing!

This evening with had a barbecue at home with friends and family. She has headed to bed exhausted but very content.

We have had a wonderful day with her. She is challenging, funny, generous, kind and loving. We are very blessed.

More surf school today and the kids have even been attempting to stand up. They are loving it although they are knackered at the end!

27This week the kids are attending a Surf School mini session every day for an hour and a half. The Little Mister has taken quite a bit of persuading but they seemed to have a fab day. The most tricky part of squeezing them into their wetsuits!

25.4The kids and I went to church this morning and then this afternoon we went to The Torteval Scarecrow Festival.

As usual there were some brilliant entries – I particularly liked the one of the Guernsey donkey kicking out Coronaviras. I have never ever seen it so busy – I suspect that the bad weather yesterday out off people going until today. It was heaving. Ruth even found a friendly Matt Hancock!

Despite Covid cases rising slowly on the island we are still able to do most things – I wonder whether they may consider bringing in some restrictions at some point but for now, we will just enjoy all these wonderful things.

Today we headed into town for lunch at a new creperie and realised that the Street Festival has started – the kids were thrilled to see their violin teachers playing in a strong quartet.

We had a quick trip to the library to sign up for the summer reading challenge – then the rain started and it was absolutely torrential. We hadn’t brought any coats with us of course!

We hotfooted it up Constitution Steps to Candie Museum to go to their new Viking Exhibition. It was brilliant and the kids (and The Mister) particularly enjoyed the interactive section.

A lovely day.

23.5The Little Miss spent another morning at athletics – thankfully the weather has turned a bit so it isn’t quite so hot.

We had a fab fishing trip booked today but unfortunately we weather was so awful that we were not able to go. Instead we were able to pop and see friends before they left the island. We are going to miss them so much, especially the kids!

22.1This morning The Little Miss went off to athletics and The Little Mister and I wandered to the park to the Royal Guernsey Agricultural & Horticultural Society Annual Show. We had a loook at the cows, goats and sheep and The Little Mister learnt a new word “pendulous” in relation to a male sheep! It was nice to be able to spend a little time with The Little Mister on our own – we rarely do it and he is good company (despite rabbiting on and on about Pokemon!)

We headed off to Vazon beach in the afternoon. It was absolutely roasting down there – almost too hot at times (what?!!) and I had four swims. It was glorious. I am so happy to have this week off and the weather has been so kind to us.
