The Little Mister learnt to read pretty much by himself – it was like magical osmosis and suddenly he is reading chapter books by the light of a torch under his duvet.

The Little Miss is finding learning to read a bit harder going. She is doing brilliantly but we suddenly remembered that the last time she completed a whole year actually, physically in school she was in Reception! Her teacher has been fab, providing flash cards to help her learn her tricky words and some good ideas on how to get her going.

The frustrating this is that I suspect that when she gets going she is going to LOVE reading. This Mister and I read so much and are totally happy immersed in a book.

We now have so much going on every week that we require a visual planner on the fridge.

And yes.. the kids and I have loads of stuff on this week. That is also an accurate representation of what The Mister has going on apart from work. Poor fella – he basically facilitates my social life at the moment. Love him.

Over the summer the kids completed a couple of Blue Peter badges and today they received their Sports badges. They are so thrilled with them and they are lovely little pin badges. We have put the somewhere safe so they can use them to get in free to places!

The Mister ran the Guernsey half marathon today. He finished in 1 hour 34 minutes but he found it hard going. I think when I took this photo he said he was suffering!

Another year as passed and today marks eight years since Mum died. As always I have had a really unsettled week in th lead up to the anniversary. It is funny how often I remember things like the last day I spoke to her etc.

As usual I went out for dinner with my Dad and my sister. Dad has been on holiday for the last three weeks and he only arrived back at about 5ish. It was so lovely to see him and catch up with him and his holiday stories. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to get a pic of all three of us so just one of me and my sister sitting at the bar drinking pre-dinner cocktails and waiting for Dad to arrive. I am lucky to have her, and we are lucky to have Dad.

We toasted Mum and had a lovely meal together. We miss you Mum, so very much, but tonight we smiled and remembered the good times. x

Whilst the kids were at a church youth club we took the opportunity to head for a swim. We managed to work out which pier was going to have the tide coming over it and Rousse was just perfect tonight!

A gorgeous, restorative swim. Perfect end to a tiring week.

Ready to smash out a Bodypump workout.

HOWEVER….. whoever designed the horrific lunge track should be punished. It was brutal!

I popped into a local charity shop and spied this lovely limited edition print for a bargain £2. I love it. It reminds me of my swimming antics with my friend Emma.

A little bit of research and I have found that the artist is called Rachel Toll and the picture is called ‘Love the skin that you’re in’ and is inspired by this poem.

Three good friends went for a swim
The one who was fat wished she was thin.
The one she was curvy wished she was clever.
The one who was clever wished she swam better
The really great swimmer wished she was witty
The one who was witty wished she was pretty
All 3 friends thought the other 2 were just fine
If only they could let their own bright light shine
So throw on your swimsuit if you’re fat or you’re thin
Enjoy fun and friendship …. love the skin that you’re in

It seems to me that The Little Miss got hold of my phone and took a few selfies… she even had a furry partner in crime!

20.1I am loving having Dad’s electric bike whilst he is away. I have pretty much cycled to work every day and I have also cycled to church, the gym, choir and anywhere I can.

I did think an e-bike was a bit of a cheat but I love being able to zoom up a hill withough feeling like I am about to have a heart attack, and then on the flat I can turn it off. It is great fun and it really makes me smile.

This was me waiting for Emma to meet me to cycle to choir. Such fun!
