Sunday 24 July 2022

24.1This morning I went to church with Auntie Cath and then went with The Little Mister and our friend Kayleigh to do Les Babouins de Torteval or the Scarecrows of Torteval Walk.

More fabulous scarecrows this year, several of which were Boris Johnson and various cabinet members!

It was extremely warm though so we ended the day with a swim at The Cup and Saucer.

I had tested The Little Mister this morning and he was negative but decided to do another Covid test this evening… this time he was positive! I don’t believe it – three out of four of us are positive now. Will I survive without getting it?!

23.1

Sadly The Little Miss tested positive for Covid this morning so she wasn’t able to join a family gathering at the park.

Several of my cousins are on the island with their children and it was lovely to catch up with them all, ad meet some of the kids that we have never met before as they were born during lockdown.

Such a lovely morning together.

22.1

This weekend my lovely Auntie Cath arrived for a flying visit. She is squeezing in a quick trip from Argentina before she heads to the Lambeth Conference… or what I call the Big Bish Bash.

I love this photo of her and my Dad. Two of the people I love and respect most in this world.

21.2

21.1Last night The Mister tested positive for Covid which was rather frustrating.

Fortunately I had planned to take this afternoon off as it was the Royal Guernsey Agricultural Show. I took the kids and we met our friend Kayleigh there with her mindees.

Loads of animals to see including donkeys, Guernsey cows, sheep and my favourites, Golden Guernsey goats. There was also a load of junior pony competitions and I was especially tickled by the ‘prettiest mare’ class.

This week the kids are at sailing in the mornings. They did it a couple of years ago and have been reluctant to do it again – The Little Miss had a breakdown last time every time she was asked to do a capsize!

They look a little happier today!

17.1

This morning church was a bit different. They had planned an outdoor service followed by a BBQ but it was predicted to be so hot that they changed it to a breakfast BBQ with a slip and slide for the kids and a very short service. It was brilliant.

After that we headed to Portelet for a change and spent a happy few hours swimming, crabbing and judging the parenting of other people on the beach… all well and good until we realised that we had no idea where the boys were. They were fine of course!

We went back to Emma and Martin’s for a BBQ tea bfore heading home via Dad’s house to see if he is ok. He grows the most glorious flowers and he gave us a couple to take home.

We had had a wonderful weekend. The kids are exhausted (and yet slightly sunburnt despite regular sunscreen… very bad parenting!) and the house has a fine layer of sand over it, but it has been fabulous.

16.1

The Mister is away this weekend so it is just me and the kids.

We headed to Cobo at about 10am and pulled a full day at the beach leaving at about 5pm. I haven’t done that in ages.

This is Guernsey at it’s best. Sunny and beautiful. Long may it last!

15.1Last day of term for our children and a particularly final last day from my niece who finished primary school.

As is tradition all the year 6 children headed to Vazon and ran into the sea with their uniform on.

We spent the rest of the afternoon and the evening at the beach. It was gorgeous. Very warm and a beautifully clear sea.
