Today my wonderful Auntie Josie and Auntie Jenny are 75 years young. I have to admit that I have shamelessly nicked this photo from my friend Michelle but I thought it was lovely.
It would be pretty hard to overestimate how important these two ladies have been in my life. Growing up as a child they were present for much, if not all, of my childhood and many happy hours were spent playing with my cousins on the beach or at each others houses.
I have spent many happy hours drinking tea and wine with them and we always have a good game of Scrabble (it’s been a while though!). They are both pretty amazing cooks – Auntie Josie makes, without a doubt, the best profiteroles in the world. Auntie Jenny is the jam, marmalade and chutney expert and their puddings and cakes are more than acceptable. I guess my love of cake must come from them both, at least in part! They are definitely part of the reason that at family events we have such an epic dessert table!
They have always been like a second and third Mums to both me and my sister and I have appreciated them even more since my Mum died. Having amazing aunts is a huge privilege – they have supported me so much over the years and provided me with quite a bit of entertainment!
So, dear aging aunts. I love you very much. Thank you for all you do and how important you have both been throughout my life.
Thank you for all the cakes – they have been worth the weight gain. I love you both xxxx
