Week 31 – 31 July-6 August 2023

31.3

31.4I felt ropey at the start of this week – either I was completed exhausted or I had Covid. No idea which! It took me until about Tuesday to start feeling better.

The week has featured a meal with my lovely cousin Stef/Pedro and her husband Big Reece, lots of kitten time, and a brilliant pool part for The Little Miss’ joint birthday party. Big Reece particularly enjoyed this party and was very comfortable on the pink unicorn.

On Sunday we wagged church and took the kids pier jumping at The Cup and Saucer. I was especially proud of The Little Mister – this time last year he went coasteering and would barely jump off a little 50cm high rock. Now he was jumping off the high wall and loving it – Outdoor Guernsey has given him so much confidence!! They spent ages in the water and I had a lovely swim but it was really breezy around the West Coast so we headed off to the `east coast to try and find some shelter. `we finally managed it but it was still a bit windy. A lovely weekend.

27.1

This evening I went for dinner with my sister and some friends. We walked across part of the coast to get there and it was just a beautiful evening. Utterly glorious.

Day 204

Beautiful Guernsey

Last night we stayed at Gatwick airport so we could get a good nights sleep. However, I had just gone to bed when the fire alarms sounded in the hotel and we all had to evacuate. Thankfully I managed to find Dad and my aunt and uncle in the crowd but I couldn’t stop my hands shaking for ages!

It was a beautiful flight home. Clear and bright and the island looked fabulous as always.

Day 43

Castle view

Today we had a team training session and once again we had the most fantastic view out over the castle breakwater and the islands.

It made concentrating quite tough!

Day 14

FamilyIt was a long trip home – about 24 hours door-to-door going from Uganda to Dubai then to Gatwick and finally back to Guernsey.

I managed to stay awake until about 7pm and then had to go to bed. I almost fell asleep in a restaurant at lunchtime but woke up a little with a quick walk on the beach.

I have missed my wonderful family. It is good to be home.

A year in pictures – Day 364

Climbing

The weather has been pretty awful. Wet with gale force winds but we managed to get out for half an hour between showers.

The kids were climbing up the big rocks at Grandes Rocques and it was reasonably sheltered. The waves were massive though. Lovely.

A year in pictures – Day 333

Clouds of glory

This morning I had a meeting in town and once I had climbed the several flights of stairs to the meeting room at the top I was graced with this glorious view.

Sometimes living on this island feels like an enormous privilege. Even when I am working I get to see some of the most beautiful things and the loveliest views. That’ll do.

A year in pictures – Day 302

Fort Houmet and friends

We took advantage of some reasonable weather and headed out for a walk across Vazon beach to Fort Houmet.

Such a nice afternoon spent with lovely friend. The kids played (mostly) nicely together and it meant that my friend Emma and I had the chance to catch up properly.

Friends, the beach and the physical health to go for a walk. Many blessings.

A year in pictures – Day 253

Constitution Steps

I was singing with the choir at the Town Church today and on the way home I walked passed Constitution Steps.

These steps have been decorated with stickers as part of a Guernsey Arts Commission initiative. I think it looks absolutely lovely!

A year in pictures – Day 223

Cousins

It has been a funny sort of day – the weather has been a bit unpredictable.

I met my sister and some of my cousins at a little beach called Les Amarreurs and I was planning to go in for a swim. However, it was pretty windy down there and I decided it was a bit of a stretch to go in!

The Little Mister donned a wetsuit and went in with some of the others though whilst The Little Miss and I sat and played with my cousin’s daughter Cora.
