2014 Project365 (Day 146)

Durrell Wildlife ParkLast night was our final under canvas, and as was fairly typical we woke to torrential rain at about 5am. There is something truly nice about lying in a cosy bed listening to the rain beating down though.

We took the opportunity to go into Durrell Wildlife Park for a couple of hours before we had to go and get the boat.

We went to visit two of my favourite animals, the Western Lowland Gorillas and last year they had a little baby called Indigo. On the first day we arrived this toddler gorilla was rolling around just in front of the window looking at The Little Mister. Unfortunately The Little Mister was completely freaked out by this. Today Indigo was sitting with his Mum eating snacks and watching the people who were watching him. He was utterly charming.

We then went on to see the Sumatran Orangutans who have two little babies. They were so sweet and we watched them for ages, climbing around, tried to escape from their Mums and generally being entertaining.

I love Durrell, it is so much more than a zoo. They work specifically with endangered species and the work they undertake extends across the world. If you get the opportunity to go I would totally recommend it. The camping is expensive but wonderful and this morning we watched the lemurs being given their breakfast from the comfort of our campsite.

A wonderful weekend spent with my lovely sister and her family. Blessings abound in every way.
