Wednesday

Today I am working at home as it is my admin day. It is almost impossible to get my paperwork done in the office because people keep asking me to do things, so this year I have been given permission to work at home one day a week. Last week was a bit of a write-off because I did bugger all, but this week I seem to have got into the swing of things. I decided to set up my table with my lap-top and got all my paperwork out last night so that it was all ready and waiting for me when I got up this morning. I have managed to write up several assessments and do some letters, but I still have all my client notes to do. It is so deathly boring. No wonder the NHS is generally rubbish. All the workers are drowning under a sea of paperwork and requests for statistics.

So, far today I have eaten a yoghurt, a banana and an apple and I am still hungry. I will go to the gym later. The diet and exercise routine seems to have been a little slow in getting started this year, but we are getting there.

Also, I am waiting for the man to come and install Sky+ for me.  Very exciting indeed!

That’s all for now. A day in the life of Auntie Doris. Not very exciting is it?

New Years Resolutions

Health

  • To lose some more weight (well, to lose the weight I put on over Christmas and then some more).
  • To get back to the gym and get on with it.
  • To try some of the exercise classes at the gym.
  • To actually give up smoking, instead of pretending I have and that smoking other peoples cigarettes doesn’t count.

Work

  • To be more committed to work.
  • To be nice to my clients.
  • To try and get all my paperwork done within a reasonable time-span.
  • To not stress so much.
  • To decide whether I need to move on and look at other jobs and whether the future holds something different for me.

Social

  • To get back to the gym and get on with it.
  • To try some of the exercise classes at the gym.
  • To remember to send birthday cards to everyone in my family and my close friends.
  • To go on holiday somewhere beautiful.

Personal

  • To be more creative.
  • To try and celebrate the things that I DO have, instead of mourning the things I DON’T have.

The 2008 summary

Well, 2008 has been both a very difficult and a very happy year, split mainly into two parts.

January – August was a pretty horrid time for me. Lots of family stuff was happening including my lovely Gran Nora dying and my younger sister getting married for a second time. At the start of the year there felt like there was so much grief, so much to try to deal with and in all honesty I wasn’t dealing with any of it very well. I was frustrated, angry, tired and lonely – all difficult on their own but in combination they felt pretty devastating. However, there were a few high points during this month, such as some time spent with Peterson and various other friends. Even though the good bits during these months seemed few and far between at the time, there was actually loads of them and reviewing my blog has helped me to remember that.

The most significant change for me this year came on August bank holiday. If anyone had told me at the beginning of 2008 that The Mister and I would get together in the beer tent on the last night of Greenbelt I would have laughed. However, it would seem that our friends who were observing us that night were not at all surprised, and there was definitely a bit of enouragement going on there.

So, an unexpected evening has brought about some real lasting happiness (well, it has lasted 4 months so far) and it was so nice to spend Christmas with him. Who knows what 2009 will bring. It would seem that I am destined to become an aunt though (kind of a tough one for me) but other than that I just don’t know. I am very hopeful that it will be more consistently better than 2008, especially the first half!

So, it just leaves me to say a big thank you to all who have read this blog and commented and sent me messages. Your support over the year when things have been tough have been invaluable and your joy in sharing the good things has been fantastic.

I hope that 2009 is a good year for us all…. so Happy New Year!!
