2014 Project365 (Day 233)

Guernsey Battle of FlowersToday we went to the North Show and watched The Battle of Flowers.

This is something that I remember so well from my childhood. We used to go with my cousins and aunts and it was a real family event. Funnily enough in my head the floats were all huge and the weather was always hot and sunny. I am sure it wasn’t always like that but that’s how I remember it!

This was my favourite entry of the day, a float called Treasure Island and I especially loved the small child, dressed as a parrot in the swing between the two trees. Brilliant design.

Well done to all who took part.

2014 Project365 (Day 232)

Cake domination!Today was the start of our local show, the “North Show” and I decided to enter three cakes; a fruit cake, a Buttermilk cake and a Sweet cake.

My Mum always entered along with her two sisters and the competition was hot! Usually we are at Greenbelt so not able to enter but this year I though I would enter in her honour.

I have never made Sweet Cake before so asked Auntie Josie for the secret family recipe which she duly provided. Last year Mum won the class (I think) but this year I won, beating my two aunts into second and third. To say I was delighted was an understatement.

Mind you, they both beat me in the Buttermilk class!

2014 Project365 (Day 231)

19 August 2014

Today The Little Mister and I took a walk around the park.

Well, I walked and he rode his trike and as we travelled he quacked loudly at the ducks we came across.

Despite the fact he can be extremely stubborn, I do love this wonderful, funny, little boy.

Marathon Men

Today is my due date but The Little Miss is actually 3 weeks old. I can’t believe that I should still be pregnant. Life would be strange without her already!

Today my brother-in-law and his running partner Warren started their 7 marathons and 7 days challenge. They completed their first one in 4 hours 34 minutes. For more info about their challenge go to www.thisisepic.org.uk and donate some cash!

Well done boys. We are proud of you. Just 6 more to go.

2014 Project365 (Day 229)

Fight club

What is it with small children and fighting?

As soon as they are given a bit of space it seems that The Little Mister and his cousins will spend most of their time wrestling with each other until one of them ends up crying.

Thankfully they love each other really but the fighting seems to be part of the close relationship, bit like the ones I have with my cousins who I regularly fought with as a child. A few bruises are a rite of passage aren’t they?

2014 Project365 (Day 228)

Donkey Derby

One of the great things about living in Guernsey is that there is so much going on.

It really winds me up when I hear people complaining that there is nothing to do. When we lived in the UK we would think nothing of driving several hours to go to an event, to see friends or have a day out. Living on a small island means that there are loads of things happening, all within a really small geographical area.

All you have to do to find things to entertain you and your family is read the local newspaper; fetes, regattas, local shows, Living History events, music festivals, the list is endless.

On Saturday we went to the local park for the Donkey Derby. It was an entertaining charity event, and basically involved small children racing reluctant, and often badly behaved donkeys around a short arena.

This guy however, is one of our local news reporters and for some reason the donkeys go like a rocket when they are hooked up to one of these little carts. As he careered past us all we could hear was ‘It’s soooooo fast!!!!’. Genius.

Cousins

I am so lucky that we live near my sister.

Our children are lucky that this means they get to spend lots of quality time with their cousins.

Today I was sitting on the sofa cuddling The Little Miss when my niece came to join us. It was very sweet when I looked down and saw them holding hands.

2014 Project365 (Day 226)

SiblingsThe Little Mister loves his new ‘Babby’, as he calls her.

Every day he wants to sit and hold her and we are having to stop him lying on her and doing big sucky kisses which leave love bites on her face.

I have to admit that he is so sweet with her and it is lovely.

Victoria plums

Check out my plums!!!

When Mum died my lovely ‘adopted’ family sent me this wonderful Victoria Plum Tree. It makes me smile every time I see it, partly because it is now fruiting and partly because it was sent to me with such love at such a difficult and emotional time.

The fruit is absolutely delicious and probably the nicest plums I have ever eaten (no jokes please!).

Thank you Gardner family for such a thoughtful present.

2014 Project365 (Day 224)

Awesome auntI haven’t taken any pictures at all today – how very slack of me!

So, I trawled back through the last couple of weeks of pictures and found this gorgeous one of my sister and The Little Miss on the day they met.

I love it, my sister is so proud of her niece and I am so grateful for her input, love and support over the last few weeks. She is a spectacular sister and an amazing aunt!
