Week 14 – 3-9 April 2023

14

It has been a very busy and stressful week at work. Despite it being a 4 day working week it really felt much longer!

However, there were a couple of high points. On Monday my friend Hannah came to Guernsey on a day trip. We were very good friends when we were at school but I haven’t seen her for at least 20 years. We had time for a quick cuppa and a catch up and it was so very lovely to see her.

We had a busy week at school with cake sale, house matches and mufti. I also made it to another round number on Basil the Bike.

Easter weekend was lovely and Good Friday was sunny but breezy. The Mister managed to cut the lawn – a huge challenge as the grass was so long and I cleared up the pots and planted to potatoes. Eric supervised from his reclining position on the bench.

On Saturday evening The Mister and I went to see GADOC perform 9 to 5. It was brilliant and I loved the costumes- very early eighties with power shoulder pads, peplums and pleated skirts. They made me think of my Mum!

Easter Sunday at church was just lovely and I was particularly moved with the practice of flowering the cross. It was very moving.

Hallelujah! He is risen.

26.1

The Little Miss and I went to church this morning and The Mister collected The little Mister from Cub Camp. He has had the most wonderful time and I love the fact that The Scouting movement teaches them so many important life skills and provides the most phenomenal amount of opportunities and experiences for them all. I am so grateful to the volunteers who allow these things to happen.

We spent the afternoon in the garden, working hard to tidy things up, cutting the lawn etc. I also harvested all the potatoes – not a bad haul!

We had a quick trip to Vazon for a delicious high tide swim before a ‘freezer-dive’ tea. Two very tired children now asleep in bed… onto another busy busy week!

22.1These beautiful little red flowers have come up in my garden. I am pretty sure that they came from Auntie Jen’s garden and I love the thought that I have something of hers in here.

The garden bounty continues. The French bean harvest has started – my absolute favourite vegetable!

Grim gardenThe garden is such a mess at the moment. It needs more time than we can give it and it could be so beautiful!

We got out to do a but of tidying up today though. It felt good to be out and doing stuff.

Day 250

DahliaDad’s garden is coming to the end of it’s beauty but there are still some gorgeous dahlias.

This one is probably my favourite. Big and bold with lots of colour. Gorgeous.

Day 148

Dad's garden centreWe have quite a big garden and it is a constant battle to keep it looking ok. In contrast my Dad has the most immaculate garden. He spends a lot of money and hundreds of hours weeding and tidying. He also is growing a lot of plants ready to pot up, so I went to visit to see what I could scrounge for my tubs and pots!

Greenhouse

The greenhouse is starting to burst into life and The Mister has build this frame to support the tomatoes… I think it should be strong enough to support the weight this year!

A year in pictures – Day 104

Car choresWe had a busy and productive day in the garden. To be honest it has been left to rack and ruin over the winter so now we are trying it back into a fit state for planting.

We cleared the veg patch, I thinned out the raspberries and dug up some raspberry canes and planted a few more.

The kids mostly played happily and even offered to clean the cars for us! Obviously, the need to be nearly naked when doing this chore is a necessity!

A year in pictures – Day 84

Little GardenerIt is time to get out into the garden.

I have planted up loads of potato bags and some plants from my Dad .

Fortunately I have a little helper to assist with the watering.
